Whether it's needed to store garden tools or your lawnmower a storage shed is a useful thing to have, to keep the garage clear and tidy.
While it's always possible to buy a pre made storage shed, you can get a lot of personal enjoyment and satisfaction from building your own. Now there are quite a number of web sites online that offer plans to build sheds and countless other woodworking projects.
You want to use some caution when purchasing plans online. It appears a few quick buck artists have cobbled together set of plans from various sources, and I understand that some are inaccurate and/or incomplete.
When I did some searching, I was able to find at least one site that offered a free sample which I downloaded and was more than happy with. It's clear that the guy behind it was a real carpenter and knew not only how to do projects but was careful to include good schematics to explain the trickier parts.
Whatever your wood working project may be, having a clear easy to follow set of plans is a huge plus. Now if you are like me, you don't always wait to get or use plans.
It's like when I am on a cross country trip and try to get to my destination without reading a map. As my wife will attest, I tend not to ask for directions.
Well, truth be told, I somehow always manage to get to my destination, but it sometimes costs much more in gas and time than it would have had I checked out a road map in advance.
The same is true with any woodworking project, particularly one as seemingly simple as building a garden shed. If you are a pro, you may well be able to do it without plans. But then again if you are a pro, you know and value a good set of plans.
Anyway, to end my rambling, I found a resource that I was more than happy with. The set of plans I got for free was for an 8 X 10 shed that my wife now uses for all her garden stuff, and a lot of trash that used to be in my garage. She's happy, I'm happy. A while it took me a couple of weeks to finish and I know of a couple oops, I was more than happy to show it off to my brother when he visited last weekend for a barbecue.
